Anion Exchange Ionomers: Impact of Chemistry on Thin‐Film Properties

نویسندگان

چکیده

Ionomer thin-films (i.e., 20–100 nm) on supports serve as model systems to understand ionomer-catalyst interfacial behavior well the confinement-driven deviation in properties from bulk membranes. While ionomer have been examined for proton exchange ionomers, thin-film of anion ionomers (AEIs) remain largely unexplored. More importantly, delineating convoluted impact chemistry and confinement morphology hydration is interest advancing field functional ionic interfaces. In this work, these aspects are studied by using AEIs different backbones (perfluorinated, aliphatic, aromatic) side chains (various lengths, single versus dual groups). Quartz-crystal microbalance spectroscopic ellipsometry used analyze density coupled with calculated free volume fraction provide insights their gas transport properties. AEI side-chain's chemical character plays a key role how modulates (in bulk). The results elucidate effects backbone, side-chain anion/cation type changes swelling. This study also provides new tuning functionalities at interfaces via chemistry, which can benefit design development electrode-ionomers alkaline membrane-based energy systems.

Anion-exchange Properties of Hydrotalcite-like Compounds

-Ion-exchange isotherms between hydrotalcite-like compounds (HT) of the NO3-, CI-, and SO4forms and F , 0% Br , I , OH-, SO42-, CO3 z-, and Naphthol Yellow S (NYS 2-) ions were determined, and the spacing and the width of the 003 reflection were measured as a function of HT composition. The ion-exchange equilibrium constant for HTs of monovalent anions are in the sequence OH> F > Cl > Br> NO3> ...

Anion Exchange Chemistry of Middle Atlantic Soils: Charge Properties and Nitrate Retention Kinetics

The negative impact of nitrate (NO3) on groundwater supplies has sparked a great deal of interest and concern in recent years, particularly in areas where coarse-textured soils abound. In light of this concern, the anion exchange chemistry of eight soils from the Middle Atlantic region was studied with particular emphasis on NO3 retention and kinetics. The soils were chosen to encompass a range...

PES/Quaternized-PES Blend Anion Exchange Membranes: Investigation of Polymer Compatibility and Properties of the Blend

Polyethersulfone (PES)-based anion exchange blend membranes were prepared from quaternized-PES (Q-PES) and N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) casting solutions with water as coagulant via non-solvent induced phase inversion. The compatibility of the blend system was investigated through thermodynamic studies while membrane formation was determined using the cloud point techni...
